Check out this amazing new website. It’s made me so glad that I made it to my late twenties without having a kid.  And that I never had a pregnancy pact with my friends.

Activities in Lake Tahoe: The Competition Afterparty

Posted in Snowboarding, Tahoe with tags , , , , , , , on May 11, 2009 by janaycore

One activity that the locals here enjoy is watching/entering snowboarding competitions. Once that fun is done, what do people want?  More fun, of course!   Hence, the afterparty.

Here’s my experience at the the Dew Tour Afterparty in Truckee, CA.

Dancing in the Man pit. Notice the random humping from behind taking place directly behind me.

Me, dancing in the Man pit. Notice the random humping taking place directly behind me. Wow!

The Man Pit: this is the effect on dance floors when the population is mostly male, often observed in Lake Tahoe.

View #2 of the man pit. Some guy actually pushed me because I wouldn't dance with him. He was later arrested for being too drunk. I didn't feel bad for him.

View #2 of the man pit. This man was actually making contact with the females. Some other guy actually pushed me because I wouldn't dance with him. He was later arrested for being too drunk. I didn't feel bad for him.

Once the fun of the competition is done and the afterparty fun is done, what do people want?  More fun, of course!   Hence, the afterparty’s afterparty.

You know you’ve really made it in Tahoe when you make it to the afterparty’s afterparty.  In my case, we were in an enclosed casino parking.

Hippies and shirtless men dance for joy at the afterparty's afterparty.

I wish I would have gone to bed instead of going to the afterparty’s afterparty.

I had to go take that scam of a test called the “GRE” today in Reno, where it was 71 degrees.  Now that I am back, cursing the red tape that is ETS, I am somewhat comforted by the reminder that here in South Lake, it can snow any month of year.

I love the days in Tahoe where it snows one day and then there’s blue sky the next.

Yeah like this

Yeah like this

After getting stuck in the snow for a minute (my car cannot drive through more than 1 1/2 feet of snow, even with chains), Kari Jo and I went snowshoeing on one such day, determined to find Fallen Leaf Lake.

I am so determined to climb that peak once the snow melts.

I know it doesn’t sound like it makes sense, but it does, I swear.  Tahoe has some of the craziest winter weather I have ever seen.  It snows while it is sunny all the time.  Some locals will disagree with my opinion that Tahoe winter is not that cold, because I think one forgets (if one has ever experienced it at all) what it is like to have sleet all winter with frigid temperatures.  In Tahoe, the sun shines all winter.  And it’s warm sun, not like that tricky bright kind with no warmth.  Don’t get me wrong.  It gets cold too, very cold.  When it is snowing.  But it only lasts a few days, not all winter.  And then you’ll be back in that tee shirt and hoodie in no time.  I love Tahoe.

Just another snowy day.

Just another snowy day.

Those are not ants.  Those are people.  On my beautiful neighborhood beach (when it’s covered in snow), Reggan Beach.  Sorry to my friends and family who have read Vicariously Living Through Janene (that’s the name of my blog, Mom) religiously.  I know I haven’t held up my end of the bargain.  But life here has been completely engaging and I haven’t had time to sit in front of my computer.  But with Emad back in Philadelphia seeing all the people I miss, I find myself back in front of the screen.  So hello again everyone.

Nuggnuts / Goodbye Big J

What's in the fries?

What's in the fries?

McDonald’s has a new advertising campaign that has once again invoked America’s love of fast food.  They have called people eating Chicken McNuggets, “Nuggnuts.“  I don’t know if you have seen the commercials…but here is one of my favorites.

GIRL YOU GOTTA 10 PIECE PLEASE DON’T BE STINGY!!!!

Well, Big J and I thought that was the most hilarious thing we ever saw.  Then, there’s also some other commercials; one with a wedding with a McNugget cake and also a fancy dinner party with people eating the McNuggets on toothpicks.

We thought that sounded like a great idea and decided to send Big J back to Philly in style!
