Still snowing..

I had to go take that scam of a test called the “GRE” today in Reno, where it was 71 degrees.  Now that I am back, cursing the red tape that is ETS, I am somewhat comforted by the reminder that here in South Lake, it can snow any month of year.

Snowflakes falling large and fast in my backyard today

I love the days in Tahoe where it snows one day and then there’s blue sky the next.

Yeah like this

Yeah like this

After getting stuck in the snow for a minute (my car cannot drive through more than 1 1/2 feet of snow, even with chains), Kari Jo and I went snowshoeing on one such day, determined to find Fallen Leaf Lake.

…But here’s the real reason I already love Tahoe

There are so many reasons why love Tahoe, even though the economy gets more depressing every day.  My favorite things are the sheer natural beauty and snowboarding.

Even though there's not very much snow

There's not very much snow right now, but I know I just have to be patient.

There's nothing like snowboarding with your best friends,

Even though they're HERBS

Tomatoes on the Road

Posted in California with tags , , on October 23, 2008 by janaycore

As we were on our way to the Eagles v. Niners game in San Fran, we noticed a mass amount of tomatoes on the side of the road.  Then we found the source and Emad took a picture of it.

The most tomatoes I've ever seen at once!!!

The most tomatoes I've ever seen in my life!!!

After battling a bout of food poisoning yesterday, at least I can be happy that I have Cali plates.

Fedoras are back big in Tahoe!

I went out to Whiskey Dick’s last week and saw that bartender was wearing a fedora.

The bartender

The bartender

Then I noticed another guy wearing one!  I thought, “Hey!  He’s copying off the bartender’s original style.”  So I took a picture of him too.  The best part of this picture is I acted like I was taking a picture of Emad and the guy thought he was ruining my picture.  HAHAHA he made this picture SO much better.

So then a band started to play.  And I noticed that the bassist was also wearing… you guessed it.

As the night progressed, and Emad grew drunker, we spotted another one at the bar!

Now I certainly don’t have anything bad to say about fedoras.  Some of the most famous and influential people wear fedoras: Humphrey Bogart and Ingrid Bergman, Dick Tracy, Frank Sinatra, Indiana Jones.

However, four fedoras in one bar in one night, I have to question…is it just a fluke snowboarding culture trend or an unconscious tribute to Britney?

I love California!!!

First of all, here is a picture of my govenator:

Welcome to Caleeforneea

That’s right, I listen to the law of that guy.

Second of all, I got invited by some Tahoe locals to a wine tasting in Amador County.  Now at the time I agreed, I did not know that it we were actually going to wine country to taste wine. In Maryland, wine tasting is usually in some crappy wine store. All I heard was, “free wine” and being jobless as I am, I said, “Hell yeah!”   As we drive through the beautiful scenic drive of Highway 88, I am totally stoked on drinking some real Cali wine, when I find out that Amador county is famous for ZINFANDEL, my favorite wine of all.

Delicious wine at Montevina

Delicious wine at Montevina. I'm a happy camper

3 wineries later (Young’s, Montevina, Renwood), we head onto our next destination: local swimming hole and river dividing Eldorado (where Tahoe is) and Amador Counties.  Everyone jumps in and has a jolly old time.

The final destination of the night: our sweet home where we christen the hot tub.  That’s what I’m talkinbout.

The next day we wake up, head off to breakfast at Bert’s and then over to Baldwin Beach, a mere 10 minute drive from my house, for some napping, sunning and swimming.  The sun is stronger as you get higher in elevation and Tahoe is about 6,500 above sea level.  I got hot enough on the beach that I even went swimming in the chilly, refreshing water surrounded by mountains.  There’s a bunch of pyrite (aka fool’s gold) in the sand and floating around the water so I’m not exaggerating when I say the water was glistening gold in the last of the summer sun as I swam through.

About to plunge into the sparkling water

Ahhh, I love California.
